About Us

A female led company inspired by literature, fantasy and history, we are passionate about stories with strong narratives.

We delve into the figures of the past and indulge in the humour and tragedy that is a perpetual peculiarity of human life.

Through our films we bring a variety of characters to screen, exploring old stories through a modern lens.

Our Name: Charmed Web

Our name Charmed Web comes from the fifth stanza (paragraph in poetry terms) of Lord Alfred Tennysons 'The Lady of Shallot' (1833).  Set in the fictional realm of Camelot, The Lady of Shalott is about a cursed woman, who can only view the world through a mirror, weaving on a loom the images she sees in the reflection. One day she looks directly out of her window at Sir Lancelot who is riding past, and a curse is triggered, leading to her tragic death as she floats down the river on a boat to Camelot.

The image of a 'charmed web' is something we resonate with as storytellers. We feel connected with the magical mastery of the Lady of Shalott's stories woven into images. This is something we aim to do; to weave a 'charmed web' of cinematic stories.

Chrissie Haynes

Chrissie is the Writer and Director behind Charmed Web. One of her main interests lies in adapting literature, prose and poetry into films. She is devoted to the idea that literature can be accessible to all understandings, through the presentation of the imagery on screen. In her final year at Kings College London, Chrissie is writing a dissertation on this topic. She  hopes that her films inspire people to seek out the original texts. Her writing is greatly inspired by fantasy, the uncanny, folklore, literature and nature - amongst many other things.

Sophie Goodman

Sophie is the Producer for Charmed Web. Over their previous two projects she has fallen in love with the film making process and thrives on bringing together a melange of moving parts to create the finished product. Being in her last year at Oxford University studying Physics, her skills lie in strategy, organisation, attention to detail and problem solving. She also adores the creative aspect of the Producer role; her passion is telling stories about the complexities of human nature which is portrayed so clearly in literature.
